Before we started this Pizza Challenge, Franco Manca was our go-to local pizza place. Relaxed setting, sourdough bases, and fresh ingredients. They have recently closed for a refurbishment, since the re-opening the menu has, thankfully stayed the same.
Franco Manca, has a very limited menu – six pizzas plus a few specials on the board. But they have an excellent selection of extras so you can create your own. We decided not to have starters and head straight for the main event.
Have to say, we had to wait a fair while to get served despite it not being exactly busy. Eventually we had to call someone over to take our order. Not the best. The drinks menu is a bit limited, no usual soft drinks, although the organic lemonade is pretty good. They only have two beer options but it is a good compliment to the beer in Budvar I think.
Jason had a “number 6″, this normal order with added mushrooms. I love Chorizo and want to see it on more pizza. It is a very good pizza, nice and spicy with lots of juices from the Chorizo that soak into the pizza base. That is all the pizza needs, but I add mushrooms so that I don’t get shouted at for not eating my five fruit and veg for the day. I also love mushrooms.
Dee opted for the “number 5″ again my usual order, however this pizza was not up to the normal standard – there was way too much garlic and very little anchovies. As mentioned this is part of our normal order, and we have never had a bad pizza here before, and are hoping it was just an “off” day.
